They are a majestic creature. When I was very young, growing up,use to go over to the neighbors pasture where he had a couple dozen horses, they were never ridden, one of them would let me fling myself on its back and then they would all take off running, I would just hang on to the mane and once in a while I would fall off, they would all stop, surround me, and i would just climb back on and off we would all go again. I miss those days. :-)
Having grown up on a farm that raised them I'll just say this; Horses are bad tempered, violent, heard beast, rather like people. They are also funny, smart and sometimes goofy----and I really- REALLY love them---Ray
Guttridge, that's amazing. I love that story. In fact, as a child, I would often dream of such scenarios. Thank you so much for sharing that wonderful memory :-)
Ray, that's very well said. It's all them things that make horses so relatable to some people. Sadly, I've had very little experience with them, not from lack of interest... perhaps that will change in the future :-)
I've had the good fortune to have been associated with, owned, worked with horses and mules for a major part of my life.
I even got to live my dream for about 10 years. I worked for outfitters in Wyoming, was able to ride horses, pack mules, go camping, hunting, fishing, In the wilderness areas surrounding Yellowstone National Park, and also in the back country of Yellowstone.
If you are wondering why I am no longer doing that, well........it doesn't pay worth spit. The camping, fishing, hunting seasons only last about a total of 5 months out of the year. so, one must find other gainful employment for the rest of the year. Don't get me wrong, I miss the life, immensely.
Hopefully, in the near future, I will be able to start purchasing a few horses and mules for personal use. Then I will be spending the rest of my life exploring the immense wilderness areas that we are blessed with, here in Idaho.
A horse will steal your hat right from your head when your napping, and run off with your clothes when your skinny dipping with the neighbors daughter :-)
"Premeditation" being the key word here, eh Dusty ;-)
"A lot of exposure" in the right places is a very good thing Bob, thank you for sharing... ;-) I'm happy for you that you'll get to enjoy them again :-)
