I read somewhere that before 1790, a squirrel could migrate from Canada to the Gulf coast of the US, without ever walking on the ground. It could jump from tree to tree all the way . That by 1870 80% of those trees had been cut. By 1970 only 8% of the great forest remained. I think I would have very much liked to have seen the Great forest as my ancestors did. --Ray
