Yes... I Own A Cannonball ;)
My Collection ~ Vintage Cast Iron ~ Part 1
We all have our little quirks... I collect old cast iron shit.
These are my favorites... I know, I'm weird.... ;-)
What I know so far....
I'm not sure about the value of them. The free weight is about 5 lbs and I haven't found much info out there about similar ones. I wonder if search engines limit the hits because of my igloo. Damn! ;-)
The cannonball I know a little more about. It's Solid Cast Iron. Some are hallow with explosives inside. This one, thank God, is solid. It's a little less then 6 inches in diameter, and weighs about 22 pounds. Heavy little sucker for it's size.
An older American gentlemen who often put on yard sales had it in his garage. I was not for sale. I just happen to notice it hiding in a corner and I just "had to have it." Honestly I did... ;-) Over a couple years, I stopped in every time I dove by and noticed he had a sale on, to see if he still had it. He did, but still not for sale. I finally got him to sell it to me for less then 20 bucks. Then went back home to Canada with my "garage sale items" ;-)
He mentioned a few things to me that the "previous owner" had told him. According to this gentlemen, the cannonball came from the New York area and is dated back in the 1800s. I'm not sure if it has been fired or not.
Now as you all know, I'm no expert in American History and since a lot of you are quite the buffs.... maybe you can tell me if these details make any sense, and which war it could have been part of.....

Obama recess appointments UNCONSTITUTIONAL
In a case freighted with major constitutional implications, a federal appeals court on Friday overturned President Obama’s controversial recess appointments from last year, ruling he abused his powers and acted when the Senate was not actually in a recess.
The three-judge panel’s ruling is a major blow to Mr. Obama. The judges ruled that the appointments he made to the National Labor Relations Board are illegal, and hence the five-person board did not have a quorum to operate.
But the ruling has even broader constitutional significance, with the judges arguing that the president’s recess appointment powers don’t apply to “intra-session” appointments — those made when Congress has left town for a few days or weeks. They said Mr. Obama erred when he said he could claim the power to determine when he could make appointments.

And the court ruled that the only vacancies that the president can use his powers on are ones that arise when the Senate is in one of those end-of-session breaks. That would all but eliminate the list of positions the president could fill with his recess power.

At least six of the 55 senators who caucus with Democrats have recently expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a simple 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote.
A ban on the military-style weapons is among the legislative goals President Barack Obama outlined in his recommendations to Congress on curbing gun violence after the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook Elementary School slaughter of 20 children in Newtown, Connecticut. Vice President Joe Biden said today it will take “persuasion and information” to garner the necessary support in Congress to enact the White House package.

Average Salary of Soldier DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN ....... $38,000

Nancy Pelosi will retire as a Congress Person at $174,000 Dollars a year for LIFE. She has retired as SPEAKER at $223,500 a year. PLUS she will receive an additional $193,400 a year as Minority Leader. That’s $803,700 Dollars a year for LIFE including FREE medical which is not available to US...the taxpayers?
She is just one of the hundreds of Senators and Congress that float in and out every year!
