My Reality Check!

I'm having time management issues at the moment... who am I kidding? I've had time management issues most of my life. I really love busy productive days, that sometimes I just give myself too much to do, then I get frustrated and overwhelmed, and barely check anything off my list... fun fun. And to top it all off, I'm a fucking perfectionist!! So I have lots of tug and war going on around in my brain, between doing it right and dropping the ball on some things. I'm sure some of you can relate....

Now this is not about complaining. I like to be objective about things, take things apart and figure them out. Problem solving and making things better are just fun for me. So complacency and unwillingness to change are not things I strive for. I'm mostly talking about habits here and ways of doing things. Perhaps even perceptions, of what is achievable in one's reality. Intentions do not always materialize, no matter how much we want them, actual "work" has to be done, dah, and there's only 24 hours in a day...  And then you gotta work sleep in there somehow... ;-)  And exercise, and good food, and making a living....

I'm gonna use this Page to motivate myself in clearing out the clutter from my life. That was actually one of my original intentions for the blog... to somehow put out there, things that fester in my mind, or around me in my life, and to be blunt... take up too much. Damn. Space. At first it was the abundant amount of internet pictures and links I had collected for a reason or another, with very few people to share them with. So the blog was perfect for me, because collecting, being curious, and looking for something new will always be part of me. So I need something in my life that allows me to play with those concepts. You can add randomness there, and my attraction to minimal "structure". I read somewhere, that some things in life, that you have perceived to be faults in yourself, are actually gifts that you should discover in a new light, and nourish. It's all in the way you look at it ;-)

So back to the decluttering. It could also be physical stuff, like all the projects I've collected materials for, stuff that I would "love to do". There simply is not enough time to do it all, so I will be choosing the ones I care most about. And eliminating the rest from my life. Physical clutter only weighs you down. It hinders productivity and takes away from what you truly love....

As for the emotional clutter... Thoughts or concepts I may be holding onto for a reason or another. Lots of head stuff, good stuff, bad stuff, weird stuff... simply too much to keep in there. And this is my outlet. I do most of my blogging in pictures, it fits me, I'm a very visual person. But I love words too, and painting picture and ideas with them, inciting thought, or just making someone smile. I get moments of "clarity" when things just flow, the words just come out and things take shape on paper, so to speak.... I think they call it creativity ;-) Whatever it is, I like it... and I like to "run with it" when I can. These "thoughts" are usually very volatile and need immediate attention, or they remain too vague to put down, until the next moment of clarity feels like surfacing.

It's easy for me to go off into tangents, I do it all the time. And I have issues with completing things sometimes. That "not good enough" annoyance we "perfectionists" live with comes in play here, but it's also because I get distracted by something else I find interesting. And since I tend to get totally immersed into whatever I'm going, without realizing it, I forget about other things, or perhaps just not give them the attention they deserve. So I need sometime like "This Page", to help me keep focused. So I can pic my projects more wisely and hit the ground running instead of paddling along in a lake of confusion. Some days I do feel like I'm drowning. Burning the candle at both ends, plus the middle, simply does not work.

So it's time to clear out the "garbage", inside and out ;-)

I've read books and have had some awesome guidance from a few friends... and of course some insight from bloggers and commenters alike. Not necessarily some direct advice but at the very last some insight on how you guys think, which I often glean from. Sometimes it's things I already know, and those things just get reaffirmed. Other times it's concepts that I never really gave a second thought to, but took me for a loop as I saw they fit for me, and gave me a much needed boost in the right directions.

So from now on, I can come here every time I work on my blog, maybe add a few things or just remind myself of my focus. Accountability does work ;-)

If you have any thoughts to share on the subject, you're welcome to do so...

Please don't hate me for being so frank and honest and saying this here... But you are hopeless, MissK... you are wonderful as you are and you will never change, or perfect all that you wish to perfect... why are you trying so hard to change a part of you that is both endearing and complex about you? What daemons, other than your "volatile" ones think you should change or be better or something else...

Just saying... I understand if you don't want to publish this... ;-)

James, you're not looking at it from the right POV. I'm just wishing to clear things out so I have more room to enjoy life. It's more about embracing my "interesting" quarks, and having a place to post relevant things so I can keep them up front for a while.

"Volatile" means that it disappears quickly. I'm just talking about "inspiration" in words I understand ;-)

Nothing dark, no demons, just me :-)

“You exist, but do you live?”

That is something I ask myself all the time, and I still do not know the answer.

You will , are, doing fine.
Sometimes it can seem notso,
opening the door and looking reveals what a closed door cannot.

If only we all could

I just do what makes me happy. When it no longer makes me happy I stop. Not a very deep thought but I tend not to overthink anything it drives some folks crazy.

I often feel the same things you describe. You want to get so much done,it seems like you can't get it all,and do a good job of it(or at least good enough to satisfy yourself). But,I think you get a LOT done, and do it well, too. One thing that helps me is keeping a running list of all the things you think you want to get done, and cross them off when you get to them-you'll be amazed at how much you got to,when you look back at it at the end of the week.
One thing about 'strivers'(that's what I call us),is you get a lot more done, and do a better job than you give yourself credit for,by comparison to 'normal' people.
About 30 years ago,my boss Jack Roush told me"People that DO things always think they could do better, but people that don't do anything never mess up."Think about that.

You read my mind Bob, again ;-)
How could I forget the KISS principle, but I like to use "silly" instead of "stupid" :-)
