I did think he was an appropriate choice for his part in Dogma. The movie's self-criticism of religion and religious complacency suggests he was playing himself, and that the decision to cast him was deliberate.

Carlin was a flaming lefty. If he were alive today, he'd probably amend his statement, "unless the Obama administration tells it to you."
