The SCAR has developed a terrible reputation as a mag sensitive "jammin' jenny". There have been repeated problems and at least one recall with the semiauto. I can say from personal experience that it "Ain't worth crap" in the mud, or for crawling through bracken or snow. Mine didn't get to 500 rounds before being traded off.---Ray
If you really must have a Semi-Auto, My pick would be the Sig. 5.56. or The Saiga "Izmash" AK 103 clone. I like the Russian made AK and SKS better than any other "modern" semi auto carbines out there. The high end builds are better than any AR 15 and the 7.62X39 is a far better "killer" in its M67 loading than the 5.56. Having said all that: Your 303 in good condition is one of the best battle and hunting rifles ever made. Learn to use it well and it will never fail you. Given that both riles were new I would chose to carry a Lee Enfield over a Bushmaster every time. Given that you live in the land of the really big critters. Do you want to carry a rifle that WILL kill one with the first shot? Or one that MIGHT kill one with 30? ---Ray
