Needing some Plumbing Advice Plz

Here's the situation:

A few days ago, I was alone at my daughter's apartment, dropping off some things for her. Then all of a sudden I hear water pissing in the hall closet where the water heater sits on a shelf. Thank God the shut off valve was right there, then I flicked the heater breakers off and called the landlord. He sent his maintenance guy over to check it out. We had to leave it as is 'till he came back the next morning with the replacement part. The pressure release valve had failed.

Now here's my concern...

The month prior, we only flicked on the breakers to the water heater for a few hours at a time when we came to clean and prep the apartment as no one was living there yet. I never thought to shut off the water line too, as I've never really dealt with this particular situation. Now I want to prevent another "accident" as my daughter and her roommate will be leaving the apartment 'til next Tuesday...

Is it better to leave everything on? The girls are concerned that it might decide to leak again and damage their stuff and the apartment with no one there to keep an eye on it. I am concerned about that too. Or should they shut off the breaker and the water line, and if they do.... is there a risk this might happen again when it's turned on.... or was it most likely because the water line was left open??

Common sense tells me turn both off.... Anyone out there with some valid experience on this matter?

My Equinox Lives Again !!

My battery died a few days ago. It wouldn't hold a charge so I needed a new one, no biggie... 'till it was time to take it out. I worked on many older cars before, but never one this new. They like to hide shit under plastic these days. I mean this should be obvious, right? Well at first, it wasn't :/

Now that I went through it, I wanna roll my eyes at how simple it was. I admit it, I went online for some tips on how to get the battery out. And I found nothing really useful about my specific vehicle. So I figured it out on my own. Which brings me to the following issue. Since no one has posted much of anything worthwhile about this "simple" task, why don't I do it ;-)

So I took a couple picture of my Equinox's engine bay. Then scribbled a few things on them in a way that I would have loved to find, when I looked for some online help. So here it is, in laymen's terms... available to anyone searching for help on such a "trivial" task.

2011 Equinox Battery Removal Steps:
1~  Slide off the plastic computer cover exposing 3 large wire connectors.

2~ Unclip the 3 connectors from the computer, label if needed.

3~ Remove the bolt that was hiding behind the middle wires. You can access this bolt if you have the right tools without unclipping the connectors. I took them off because it was very cold (-20C) when I did this. I did not want to put extra stress on the wires. It was easier to take the computer completely out of the way.

4~ Slide the computer off the metal tabs and put in a safe place.

5~ Remove the 2 bolts holding the metal bracket in place. The one towards the firewall is easy. The second one, is harder to get at since it's hiding under a plastic panel. Pop out the plastic faster indicated on the picture to lift the panel just enough to slide your ratchet or wrench in. If I recall correctly, you need 8mm all around.

6~ Remove the battery cables and voila!

7~ Reverse the steps to re-install.

If you find this information helpful, let me know ;-)

Windows 7 Desktop... As YOU Wish ;)

Inquiry Minds want to know, how to use any pics you want as your desktop image. I knew how to make a specific picture appear as the desktop, but I never really checked how to make a desktop slideshow out of a custom group of pictures. So for those who don't already know, here is what I found. Hope it helps ;-)

To make a single picture your desktop. Simply save it somewhere you can find it on your computer. Then right click on it and select "Set as desktop background" and voila. Depending on the size and resolution, some pictures will look better then others as your desktop.

Now, how to make a group of pictures that you choose alternate as your desktop background. First save all the picture you like in a folder. Then right-click directly on the desktop. Select "Personalize", then "Desktop Background" at the bottom of that window. It will give you something that looks like this....

Now all you have to do is find your folder location, then put a check mark on the picture, or pictures you want as your desktop image. Notice at the bottom where you can modify the position, and the amount of time it will take to switch to the next one.

If you like some of the pictures I post and haven't already saved the ones you like. The easiest way to find them again is to click on a specific label like Wallpaper, Redheads or Gun Porn as examples, and find your favs a lot faster. Have fun... ;-)

Oh, and out of curiosity, let me know by clicking "reactions" or commenting if this was helpful in some way... I hope it is :-)
